Terms of Use
Life in Peterborough & The Kawarthas
Effective Date: October 25, 2026
Last Updated: October 25, 2026
1. About These Terms
Life in Peterborough & The Kawarthas is an independently operated digital lifestyle publication based in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, operating as a sole proprietorship under that name.
These Terms of Use explain the conditions for using our website, www.lifeinpeterboroughandthekawarthas.ca, and participating on our official social media pages and accounts, including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. References to “we,” “us” and “our” mean the publication's operator.
Please read these Terms before using our services or submitting content. Where we ask you to accept these Terms through a submission form or agreement, your acceptance applies to that interaction. Additional terms may apply to advertising, paid placements, contributions, contests or other specific services. Where there is a conflict, the specific terms accepted for that service govern that subject, subject to applicable law.
Our social media accounts are also subject to the relevant platform's terms and community rules. These Terms do not override those rules or give us control over the platform itself.
2. Our Publication and Information
We publish lifestyle content about people, places, homes, food, culture, businesses and experiences in Peterborough & The Kawarthas. Our services may include editorial features, business directory profiles, event and open house listings, photographs, videos, newsletters, advertising and sponsored content.
Our content is provided for general information and interest. It is not a substitute for legal, financial, medical, real estate or other professional advice appropriate to your circumstances.
Coverage, inclusion in a directory, a shared post or a link does not by itself mean we have independently inspected, certified or guaranteed a business, property, product, service, venue or event. Opinions and recommendations reflect their context and publication date.
3. Accuracy, Availability and Changes
We take reasonable care in preparing content, but information may change, become outdated or contain errors. We do not guarantee that every item is complete, current or suitable for your particular purpose.
Prices, opening hours, menus, accessibility details, eligibility requirements, availability, event schedules and property information should be confirmed directly with the relevant business, organizer or authorized representative before you make arrangements or rely on them.
We may correct, update, reorganize or remove content. We do not promise uninterrupted access to the website, social accounts or any particular feature. Changes affecting a purchased service remain subject to the applicable agreement and legal rights.
4. Ownership and Permitted Sharing
Unless otherwise indicated, our original text, photographs, videos, graphics, branding and other original materials are owned by or licensed to us. Other materials remain the property of their respective rights holders.
You may link to our publicly accessible pages and share our posts through the sharing tools made available by the relevant platform. Please retain attribution and links where those tools provide them, and do not imply that we endorse you or your business.
Except with permission, under an applicable licence or as permitted by law, you may not reproduce, republish, sell, distribute or commercially exploit our content. Crediting the publication does not, by itself, replace permission. Rights granted by law, including applicable copyright exceptions, are not restricted by this section.
Please contact us before reusing our photographs, videos, articles or branding outside the sharing methods described above. We may not be able to authorize reuse of third-party materials.
5. Acceptable Use
You must use our website, submission forms and social spaces lawfully and respectfully. You must not:
Submit knowingly false or misleading information, impersonate another person or falsely claim authority to represent a business, organizer or property.
Infringe copyright, privacy, publicity or other legal rights.
Publish threats, harassment, discriminatory abuse, unlawful content or private personal information without authorization.
Send spam, repetitive promotions, scams or unsolicited commercial content through our forms or community spaces.
Introduce malicious software, interfere with our services, evade security controls or attempt unauthorized access.
Use automated tools to harvest personal information or interfere with the operation of our services.
Misrepresent your relationship with the publication or use our name or branding to suggest an affiliation without permission.
6. Directory, Event and Open House Submissions
Submission is a request for consideration. It does not guarantee acceptance, publication, timing, placement, reach or inclusion of particular wording or images, except to the extent expressly agreed for a paid service.
You must be authorized to submit the information and must make reasonable efforts to ensure it is accurate and current. Submit only information appropriate for the purpose of the form, distinguishing public listing details from private administrative contact information.
We may contact you to verify details, request additional materials or clarify information. You are responsible for notifying us promptly of material changes, errors, cancellations or changes in your authority to provide the submission.
Published descriptions are written or edited in our editorial voice. We may verify, shorten, reorganize or rewrite supplied copy and adapt approved materials for the relevant format, within the permissions provided. We retain editorial control, subject to applicable law and any specific commitments in an accepted agreement.
We may decline, update or remove submissions where appropriate, including for inaccurate, outdated, unlawful or unsuitable content. Paid-service remedies are governed by the applicable agreement and legal rights.
7. Permission to Use Submitted Materials
You retain ownership of materials you submit, subject to the rights of any other owner.
When you submit materials for publication and accept the relevant submission terms, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce, edit, format, crop, display, publish and distribute those materials to evaluate and administer your submission, publish the approved content and promote that content through our website, newsletters and official social accounts. The licence is worldwide because those channels are accessible internationally. It includes use by service providers only as necessary to carry out those purposes on our behalf.
You confirm that you have the necessary authority, rights and permissions for those uses, including permissions concerning identifiable people where required. This includes any permissions needed from photographers, creators, property owners or other rights holders. Do not provide music, images, video or other content whose licence does not permit the proposed use.
Private administrative information is handled under our Privacy Policy and is not licensed for public promotion through this section. Private correspondence is not automatically treated as a submission for publication.
The licence does not transfer ownership or authorize unrelated resale of your materials. Published materials may remain in our archive, subject to applicable law and any agreed limits. You may contact us about ending future use or removing published material. We will review the request in light of applicable rights and agreements; copies already emailed, independently shared or retained by third-party platforms may not be retrievable.
Tagging our account, using a hashtag or commenting on a post does not by itself grant permission for us to download your photograph or video and republish it in a separate feature or advertisement. We will seek any additional permission needed for that use.
8. Events, Open Houses and Third-Party Arrangements
Event and open house information may be supplied by organizers, businesses, real estate representatives or other third parties. Schedules, admission requirements, property details and availability may change without our knowledge.
Confirm current details directly with the organizer or listing representative. Attendance, ticket purchases, bookings, property inquiries and other transactions are arranged with the relevant provider, under its terms. We do not act as the event organizer, ticket seller, property seller or listing representative merely by publishing a listing.
An open house listing or property feature does not create a real estate representation relationship with the publication. Extended property information should be obtained through the linked listing and authorized representative.
Open house social coverage may be presented as a collective roundup rather than individual posts, as described in the applicable offering. Examples and mock-ups identified as samples are illustrative and do not represent actual scheduled events or available properties.
9. Advertising and Sponsored Content
Advertising, sponsorships and paid features are subject to the applicable booking terms, accepted proposal or advertising agreement, including any stated pricing, deliverables, payment requirements, review periods, deadlines and cancellation provisions. An inquiry alone does not create a booking.
Paid content and material commercial relationships will be identified through appropriate disclosures. Purchasing advertising does not purchase independent editorial approval or favourable coverage outside the agreed placement.
Advertisers are responsible for the accuracy and legality of their claims and for securing rights to supplied materials. We may reject or request changes to content that is misleading, unlawful, unsupported or inconsistent with our publication standards.
Where factual review or approval is offered, materials and responses must be supplied by the communicated deadlines. Late information, approvals or correction requests may affect scheduling or what can reasonably be changed. Changes requested on the evening before publication or on publication day cannot be guaranteed. The applicable booking terms govern the consequences of missed deadlines; these Terms do not create an automatic approval or forfeiture rule.
We do not guarantee sales, leads, attendance, subscriber growth, search rankings or a particular level of reach or engagement unless a specific measurable commitment is expressly included in an accepted agreement. Reporting is subject to available measurements and the aggregate-reporting approach described in our Privacy Policy.
10. Social Media Comments and Community Participation
Thoughtful discussion, differing opinions and constructive criticism are welcome. Comments should relate to the content and respect other participants.
We may hide or remove comments, limit participation or block accounts for conduct that breaches these Terms or platform rules, including harassment, threats, discriminatory abuse, spam, impersonation or unauthorized disclosure of personal information. Moderation is not a promise that all content will be reviewed immediately or that every inappropriate comment will be removed.
Comments belong to their authors and do not necessarily reflect our views. Keep private information out of public comments. Social accounts and direct messages are not continuously monitored and should not be used for emergencies or time-sensitive listing changes.
11. Newsletters and Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information, including information supplied through forms, newsletters and social interactions.
Submitting a listing, event, open house, advertising inquiry or comment does not automatically subscribe you to our newsletter. Newsletter subscription is a separate, optional choice. You may unsubscribe using the link in our emails or contact us directly.
12. External Websites and Platforms
Links and embedded content may connect you to third-party websites, advertisers, booking services, maps, videos or social platforms. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices.
We do not control independently operated third-party services, their content or transactions. We may use platform tools to share content, but cannot guarantee how a platform displays, distributes, removes or retains it.
13. Corrections and Rights Concerns
Please contact us if you believe content is inaccurate, infringes your rights or improperly discloses personal information. Include the page or post link, a description of the concern and enough information for us to assess it. Where relevant, explain your authority to act for the affected person or rights holder.
We will review requests and take appropriate action in light of applicable law, editorial considerations and any relevant agreement. A request does not automatically require removal, and these Terms do not restrict rights or remedies available under law.
14. Liability and Your Legal Rights
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of, or inability to use, our website, social accounts or general informational content, including losses arising from reliance on outdated third-party listings or independently operated services.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, limits non-waivable consumer or privacy rights, or excuses fraud or wilful misconduct. Any limitations must be read subject to those protections. Obligations and remedies for purchased services are also governed by the applicable agreement and law.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as our services or legal requirements change. The revised version will be posted with an updated date. Material changes will receive additional notice or acceptance where required by law.
Changes do not retroactively alter an existing paid agreement or permissions already agreed for a particular submission without a valid legal basis or the necessary agreement.
16. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the applicable federal laws of Canada. Subject to mandatory legal rights and jurisdiction rules, disputes may be brought before the courts of Ontario. Nothing in this section requires arbitration or waives a statutory complaint or remedy.
If a provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
